Here’s a rundown of TV, Entertainment and Ex-Pat mutterings for the past week.
The Entertainment industry is set to grow 16% by 2025 according to Price Waterhouse Coopers Global Entertainment and Media Outlook. While Asia is the fastest growth area London, New York, Paris, Berlin, Stockholm and Istanbul are the cities set to flourish with job opportunities. That’s good news for us Brits abroad. It means there should be plenty of work for us here and back home.
We’ve all experienced the lows of packing up and moving abroad, but according to a recent Fast Company article there’s definitely a silver lining. Our ‘multi-culturalism’ makes us more creative in the workplace, apparently because we consider alternatives to the way things are done and view things from multiple perspectives.
Speaking of ex-pats doing well, a big congrats to Brit Songstress Estelle, whose single “Conqueror” is the breakout hit of Fox’s breakout show “Empire’. The single debuted at No.4 on iTunes after appearing on the show this week. Co-incidentally Brits In The Box was among the first to hear the song performed live at an exclusive gig held at our office last year. For those who haven’t watched Empire its definitely a guilty pleasure (plus Naomi Campbell playing a cougar is priceless). It’s a behind-the-scenes look at the music industry, in the same way that ‘Footballer’s Wives’ was a behind-the-scenes look at the soccer industry.
More on Fox … or more precisely the Murdoch Empire, rumour has it that another high profile Brit is currently in the US of A … making the the lyrics from Estelle’s song “We all make mistakes, you might fall on your face” even more poignant:
Going Live? This week LiveStream introduced their Broadcaster Mini to the market. The dongle (which costs around $300) can transmit in broadcast quality. It means anyone can now broadcast live from any camera that has a mini HDMI output.
Looking for a job? Then take a look at this week’s offerings available on Cynopsis:
New York has garnered a reputation for an inflated property market populated by over-priced and under-sized apartments. Looks like this reputation is set to stay with this latest housing development making its debut later on this year. These 350 sq ft micro apartments will start renting at $2k per month.
And a notification from the New York Office of Emergency Management. If you hear loud bangs / explosions in the vicinity of Randalls Island Road (between Hell Gates Circle and Reilly Boulevard) tomorrow (Monday March 9th), don’t panic. A TV show is filming a simulated explosion involving a vehicle. NYPD and FDNY will be on site.
